A woman’s body was found in an apartment complex parking lot in the Ontario city of Vaughan, just outside Toronto, and local police are investigating the death as a possible murder, CNN affiliate CP24 reported Thursday.

Gale Graham, owner of a restaurant at the complex, told CP24 she found the body when she arrived for work. Police are not revealing information about the cause of death, according to the news outlet.

By Thursday evening, Ontario Provincial Police said they were treating the death as a possible homicide and had issued a missing person description for the woman.

On Wednesday, a man who spent time with Gally Graham, known as Joe Powell, and her body told CP24 that the woman was his girlfriend, and “was in a better place.”

“She was fine. She was smiling, and she was saying goodbye to me and saying, I love you,” said the man, who identified himself as Powell, on Wednesday.

Canada’s Parliament and local officials shared condolences to the woman’s family and friends.

“I was deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Gale Graham, who is a friend of my family,” federal New Democrat leader Jagmeet Singh tweeted. “I pray for her family & that the killer will be brought to justice.”

Khadija Ghader, an immigration lawyer who represented the couple in the past, told the Toronto Star that Graham had been “forcibly evicted from her apartment” before, and that the pair moved in with Powell after that.

Tanya O’Shaughnessy, deputy mayor of Vaughan, told CP24 police are investigating possible domestic violence as a “line of inquiry” and that “several agencies” have “been called in to assist.”
