“Everybody had gotten sick of me,” Jennifer Lawrence says in the latest issue of Vogue. “I was a supernova but everybody didn’t know what to make of me.”

As the Oscar-winning actress says goodbye to her public life, she reveals that she had just moved from Los Angeles to New York, and looking for a new way to fit in.

This week sees the release of “Red Sparrow,” a star-studded spy thriller that Lawrence produced and stars in. In it, she plays Dominika Egorova, an American and Russian ballerina-turned-sassily talented espionage expert.

“It’s a film where everybody’s talking about the politics of it, but I never was interested in the politics,” Lawrence says. “I really was interested in the social message because the film is about how you’re viewed in the world.”

Since starring in “Winter’s Bone” in 2010, Lawrence has come to represent women in front of and behind the camera, starring in “The Hunger Games” and earning an Oscar for “Silver Linings Playbook.” The 27-year-old actress also stars as Tiffany Getty in the HBO miniseries “Big Little Lies.”

A journalist once asked Lawrence to describe the difference between she and her paparazzi critics.

“It’s not a question,” she said. “It’s an expectation.”

“Red Sparrow” is in theaters now.
