Justin Bieber leads Canadian Grammy nominees with five nods

Nineteen-year-old Justin Bieber leads the field of Canadian Grammy nominees with five nods, following in the footsteps of Drake and his seven nominations in the country’s music awards.

Bieber is nominated for Best New Artist, Best Pop Solo Performance, Best Pop Vocal Album, Best Pop Duo/Group Performance, Best Pop Instrumental Album and Best Pop Instrumental Album.

Other pop stars of Canada who are up for awards include the soft rock quartet Metric, with two nominations: Best Pop Album and Best Alternative Music Album for their self-titled 2017 release.

The band’s lead singer, Emily Haines, tweeted her excitement about the Grammy nods:

The Canadian musicians will compete with Taylor Swift for the Best Pop Album award, as well as Shawn Mendes, Ed Sheeran, A Tribe Called Red and Imagine Dragons for Best Pop Vocal Album.
